The ancient name of Sarover is “Mahavata” but in common language is said to be Maota. Nearby that lake there were large wat trees. Because of this it called “Maotha”
The lake collects rain water flowing down from the nearby hills. The lake was the main source of water for the amer palace and for common people. The Dil-Aaram Bagh is situated on its northern end. The “Kesar Kyari” (Saffron Glower beds) garden is in its middle. That looks very beautiful.
